Wicked Hen Party Dance Class Brighton

A Wicked hen party dance class in Brighton hands the group something with actual theatre in it — big arms, bigger endings, and a soundtrack that has been living rent-free in the bride's head since the films. Your instructor writes their own choreography and rebuilds it for whoever is actually in the room, in one of four spaces we hire around the city or at your hen house, for a flat £175 plus the venue.

Secure the date.
Debate the green later.

Momentum starts with just a date and a vague idea of numbers — the green details come later. Whether anybody commits to green, who gets the big ending, and how much musical-theatre arm is involved will all keep until the day. You will have something back the same day, covering the date, the room and the total.

Musical theatre, minus the audition.

A soundtrack built for big endings

Musical theatre gives a dance hen party something the pop themes struggle to offer: a proper build. These songs are written to escalate, which means the choreography can escalate alongside them, and a room that started the session apologising for itself finishes it doing something with genuine scale. The material is also unusually generous towards non-dancers, because theatre style rewards commitment and facial expression at least as much as clean feet, and commitment is never in short supply at a hen do. It has been a strong performer on our Brighton hen party themes list ever since the films sent an entire generation back to the soundtrack.

Written by your teacher, on the day

No company routine exists for this theme, or for any of the others we run. Each instructor choreographs their own work and then reshapes it around the group they have been handed — more storytelling for a party that wants characters, more straightforward choreography for one that just wants to dance, a gentler climb for a room where half the hens arrived nervous. Some sessions split into two camps and play them off against each other; some keep everybody together for one enormous finish. That is settled between the teacher and the room, and nothing about the running order is promised beforehand.

The bride, and the obvious next booking

A featured moment is available if she wants the belting-it-out ending, and completely optional if she would rather stay in the ensemble. Parties who want more razzle and less flying tend towards Chicago; those after the whole West End buffet take Musicals. And couples occasionally get in touch about a first dance lesson, having worked out at the hen do dance class that a big ending is achievable with a fortnight of practice.

–In broad terms

A Wicked ninety,
outlined loosely.

It opens with a warm-up aimed squarely at posture and arms, because theatre style falls apart without either. The routine then arrives in sections that get progressively bigger, mirroring how the music behaves, with each part repeated until the room owns it rather than merely recognises it. How much character and story goes on top — two camps, a narrative, a properly dramatic entrance — is worked out between your teacher and the group while the class is running. The last stretch is usually a full run with the phones out. None of it is fixed ahead of time: your instructor owns the pacing and adjusts it as the room responds.

Thirteen of us and about four who could genuinely dance. By the end you honestly could not tell which four they were.

The build in the last section was the whole point. When twenty people hit the final shape together the room actually screamed.

One hour, one big ending, entirely worth it.

Twenty-six of us including the bride's drama-teacher mother, who had notes. The instructor took them graciously and ignored most of them.

Wicked, answered.

What Brighton hens want cleared up about this hen party activity.

Is it all music from the show?+

Show-flavoured music picked by your teacher, since every instructor choreographs their own material and chooses what suits it. If the bride has one number she would be devastated to miss, write it on the form and they will aim to include it.

Do we have to sing?+

Nobody is made to. Singing happens anyway in most sessions, usually somewhere around the last chorus, but this is a dance class and the only real requirement is moving about with some conviction.

Is it suitable for people who cannot dance at all?+

Completely. No experience is necessary, and theatre style is the friendliest thing to learn on because expression carries as much weight as footwork. Your teacher pitches it at whoever looks least sure.

Should we go green?+

Some parties do and it is very effective in photographs. Nothing is issued at our end, costume or otherwise, so anything themed arrives with the group — and plenty of hens simply wear black and let the routine carry it.

Does the fee go up for a larger party?+

The number of hens makes no difference to either figure: the ninety-minute workshop is £175 plus the venue and the shorter hour £150 plus the venue. Bigger groups get a bigger hired room, and that is the only change.

Can we film the finish?+

Yes, and it is worth doing here, because the ending is designed to look like something. Your instructor calls how the class finishes, though one clean run for the cameras is usual.

Whereabouts does it run?+

Four hired rooms cover the city — Madeira Drive on the seafront, North Road in North Laine, Mermaid Walk at the Marina and Montpelier Road at the Hove end — and we match one to the size of the party. If the weekend is happening somewhere out in Sussex, we come to you instead.
